Royal Rangers Singapore held its inaugural Royal Rangers Academy and the Royal Rangers Advanced Academy from 28th Apr to 1st May 2008. The academies train selected Royal Rangers leaders to serve as ‘top notch’ instructors and to assume leadership roles in the national training camps that train Royal Rangers commanders to be effective mentors for boys and girls in the Royal Rangers programme.

Senior RR leadership from the Asia Pacific and from the United States helmed both the academies. Commander Jim Barger, Chairman of the Royal Rangers Council in the U.S.; and Commander Chia Eng Kiat, National Commander of Royal Rangers, Singapore led the Advanced Academy. Similarly, the Academy was ran by Commander Perry Siddle, the National Training Coordinator for Royal Rangers, U.S.; and, Commander Jim Gunaratnam, Coordinator for the Asia Pacific Region, Royal Rangers International. More importantly, the candidates were also challenged by Commander Doug Marsh, National Commander of Royal Rangers, U.S. and, concurrently, Director, Royal Rangers International to inspire, mobilise and resource men and women – more effectively – to mentor the next generation of men and women for Jesus.

A total of 27 leaders from Singapore and Malaysia graduated from both the academies. Nine from the Advanced Academy and another 18 graduated from the Academy. Throughout the 4 days, the candidates were challenged to achieve the highest standards of knowledge, “instructor-ship” and Christian stewardship in the Royal Rangers required to inspire, lead and equip men and women with the heart, hand and head skills to mentor future generations. They pushed themselves to excel beyond the expectations of the Bronze, Silver and Gold standards; and, proved themselves ready to transform Royal Rangers into the premier child-led, adult facilitated Christian mentoring programme in Singapore and Malaysia. With God’s Help, We Will.
